Review: Playing the Part by Robin Covington

Playing the Part

by Robin Covington

After publicly self-destructing over a heartbreak a year ago, bestselling romance writer Piper James is now making nice with her publisher by agreeing to teach Hollywood’s favorite action star how to act like he’s in love. Only playboy Mick Blackwell has no clue what love looks like. When a seductive heat ignites between Piper and Mick, she jumps at the chance for a bit of fun between the sheets, but with two stipulatons: she’s kept out of the public eye and things end when she returns to New York. Only Mick keeps changing the rules on her. Tempted by America’s favorite bad boy, Piper is wondering how far she’s willing to bend…

My thoughts (Theo~):

This story revolves around a best-selling author Piper James and her insecurities after being the headline for almost every single newspaper in the world after a sore break-up. The thing about Piper is not that she is just another one of those authors that keep the ideas coming. She is a period where she is struggling with a lot and tried to make everything better by being there for the persons she cares; shame that there aren’t too many left!

After her engagement break-up with the famous actor Antonio, Piper is thrown into the press and her image has a lot of suffering to do! Her publisher wants her out of the business because of a missed deadline; everyone is sort of against her! But in an “I’m ready to do this thing” sort of mood, she accepts to give indications to the best actor out there Mick Blackwell so he could get the role he is acting straight!

Right after arriving on the set Piper is almost thrown back at how well the designer crew got the kitchen to look like as if her own brain showed them how she imagined it in the book she wrote. She is excited and visibly ready to lose herself when no one else but Mick Blackwell enters the kitchen. The pull between them is almost instant, magnetic, lost, yet found. They both react to each other’s proximity and almost kiss right there and then!

But Piper is not the type of woman that kisses and tells, neither kisses nor leaves, but she is well aware of the Mick’s image that he’s been projecting over and over again. He does kisses and leaves and also he just fucks you out of your mind and leaves! So, Piper decides that she has to come up with these ideas before him! She needs to set these rules so she can easily duck away if she wants to!

No one straight has ever not even looked at Mick Blackwell without need in their eyes. But she does not want to get on that road again. She knows the media, she knows the actors and she knows her heart, but she is still not ready when assumptions after assumptions are being made and thrown back at her about Mick and her relationship. But she endures. For a while.

And when the fairytale goes bad, their so called relationship goes bad! They are doomed to go extinct anyway, so they drift apart. The pain is hard, the idea is hard, but they are both adults. They will stay away! Right? Right?!

My rating: 4 / 5 stars
