Lucy Tate is on the run. After witnessing the brutal murder of her parents, she’s spent five years in hiding — taking on different personas and faking her way through life. The authorities can’t be trusted, so she remains in the shadows, always one beat ahead of the man who is forever hunting her. That is, until she meets Zach Schultz, a senior at Monte Vista High and the one guy she can’t bear to leave. Suddenly her natural instincts to lie, steal, and run are overshadowed by something else…the desire to stay. It’s her one shot at a normal life. Curious by nature, Zach is immediately drawn to the new girl at school. How can a person look both confident and vulnerable all in the same moment? Determined to learn more about her, he tries to get close, but is thrown into a world of lies and confusion .The only thing that becomes apparent is that discovering the truth may get him killed.
My thoughts (Theo): This novel it is not about sweet, beautiful things that make you cry or make you want to never ending. Yeah, you might it never to stop, but you won’t see sweet and nice! Not at all. You will see a devastating past, something to make you cry a river for, power, need for power, alert, running away. This is what you will see, dearer!
Lucy Tate has always been on the run. Because of a life turning event that took place when she was only thirteen, now she has to keep the bad luck and everything in check. After winning a competition in the local school theatre play, she is forced to watch her parents die after a nice, cozy dinner. Because she hears her father say that the killer is a dirty cop, she loses all her faith in the police enforcement department and starts anew. On the streets. But life is though on the streets, it can be harder than you ever imagined, but she soon enough gets the basics: how to steal, how to feed yourself from the trash cans, how to make everyone not notice you.
But here comes Zach. He is just curious, too curious for his own good, so he is basically forced by his brain to meet this Lucy and make her like him. So he tries, but the truth soon comes to live and make everyone cringe at the new discoveries.
Lucy is not exactly Lucy, but she is not anyone else either. She is just a girl with a different name now: Dia. And maybe you will think about witness protection programme, I know I did, but for a different reason the author showed me the ugly face of that idea. She is not on the programme, but she is forced to make a living and lie to people.
If before she found a team to work with, now she is all alone on the run from the bad guy. She knows that he is there searching for her, and she does not want to make an acquaintance with him no matter what.
This novel is about the thrill, about the chase, the hiding, the fact that everywhere you go you leave a trace that can be somehow followed back to you. Are you ready to take the chance?
Happy readying everyone!
